As both establishment Democrats and Republicans, including Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, called last weekend for the United States to provide $61 billion in aid to Ukraine, some of the things they said were truly shocking.
Never mind that the chances of beating Russia are getting worse by the minute, having already given Ukraine well over $100 billion. Some lawmakers are going beyond even that nonsense with their words.
Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly may have stolen the show when he claimed the Russia-Ukraine border was “our border.”
“You mean like the border between Virginia and Maryland?” As expert Michael Tracey joked:

‘The Ukraine-Russia border is our border’
“Some people say we should solve the border problem first,” Connolly told the House of Representatives.
He continued: “The Ukraine-Russia border is our border.”
Wow, right? Is it the same as the border of the United States or the border of our state? I guess we missed that in geography class.
Connolly went on to say: “It is the dividing line between a corrupt dictatorship and freedom-loving people seeking a democratic way of life. Are we participating in the consequences? yes. Absolutely yes. Will we seize this opportunity? Will we stand shoulder to shoulder with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters who have blocked Vladimir Putin, a corrupt criminal dictator who does not respect any norms of war, for 1,151 days?”
“We have to pass this test today,” he added. “We must stand with Ukraine. Slava Ukraine!”
How much he cares. Which country does he represent?

American politicians have no shame in wasting taxpayer money.
To be clear, this Democrat believes, as most Democrats and many Republicans did last week, that prioritizing America's southern border over the Ukraine-Russia border is wrong and immoral.
Never mind that the majority of Americans no longer want the United States to be in this war. Never mind that we have already sent billions of dollars to Ukraine. Never mind the fact that they have made very little progress against Russia. Never mind that most Ukrainians don't want to fight and that the country's government is conscripting them to feed them straight into the meat grinder.
American politicians will fight tooth and nail to ensure that American tax dollars are used to fund this unwinnable war effort.
forever.
