Dion revealed that he had been diagnosed with an “extremely rare” progressive neurological condition called stiff-person syndrome. This may be the first disease most people have heard of.
“As you know, I’ve always been an open book,” she said in an Instagram video. “Before, I wasn't ready to say anything, but now I am. I've been dealing with health issues for a long time and it was really hard to face these challenges and talk about everything I was going through.”
Dion explained that she suffered muscle spasms that affected “every aspect” of her daily life, sometimes making it difficult to walk, and most sadly, that she would not be able to return to tour as she had planned.
“I am working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to regain my strength and ability to perform again,” Dion said. “But I have to admit, it was hard work.”
According to the National Institutes of Health, symptoms of muscle cramps include stiffness in the muscles of the trunk, arms, and legs, and increased sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress—all of which can cause muscle cramps.
