Investigative reporter Catherine Herridge and the union representing CBS News workers celebrated the return of confidential files seized after she was fired nearly two weeks ago.
In reporting on the progress, SAG-AFTRA said, “We are pleased to confirm that our union has monitored the return of several boxes containing Catherine Herridge's press releases from the CBS News offices in Washington, D.C.”
Herridge said he was reviewing the contents of the box and shared the union's statement on X, a social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“We welcome CBS News’ reversal, which comes after SAG-AFTRA’s intervention and extensive media coverage that highlighted shared concerns about free speech and the First Amendment,” they wrote. “Resolving this issue sends a strong message that we will protect the fundamental principles of the First Amendment.”
Political Insider reported that CBS has seized Herridge's files, computers and records but will not review them and that the documents are locked away in her office.

Herridge was investigating Hunter Biden
Herridge's firing and how it was handled, not to mention the timing, initially raised eyebrows because she was investigating aspects of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal before she was fired.
In addition to the laptop investigation, the award-winning reporter has covered the House impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden, reports on special counsel Robert Huh's handling of classified documents, and criminal charges against his eldest son.
The former Fox News reporter is also pursuing a First Amendment court lawsuit to protect the identities of sources used in a report written in 2017.
Herridge will have to bend to a court's request to be interviewed under oath about the case or face a hefty fine.

What happened to the files while CBS was keeping them?
Needless to say, several social media users expressed skepticism that no one at CBS News had touched the files in Herridge's office during the time Herridge had access blocked.
“After a copy was made and provided to Hunter Biden’s attorney,” one person said. wrote on.
“Oh, please.” Someone else answered. “If I wanted something, I followed suit. “It is the information that is valuable, not the original document.”
Radio host Briana Morello asked“How much did they see, copy, and forward to the Feds?”
“With all due respect, they got what they wanted.” Added Julie Wright.
There was no indication that the files had been tampered with in any way, but the way CBS handled Herridge's firing raised concerns of a conspiracy.
They made the bed.
