Carol Vorderman, math genius and political activist count down For the first time in 26 years, this year's Edinburgh TV Festival will feature an alternative McTaggert.
Vorderman's speech will take place before the publication of her first book. What now? On a mission to fix a broken Britain.She has recently emerged as an influential figure in politics, and has been a vocal opponent of the ruling Conservative Party and its policies.
The festival said Vorderman “brings extensive experience at the forefront of TV and social media campaigns to the table” and she will be interviewed for a more in-depth discussion later.
Vorderman made a name for himself when he landed a job as a maths genius on Channel 4. count down, The only C4 show that has aired since the network launched. She worked on the show for 26 years, making a name for herself with her lightning-quick math skills and smooth presentation style.
Since stepping down, she has presented several other TV shows and currently presents a weekly radio show on LBC. More recently, Vorderman, who grew up in poverty with her sisters, brother and mother in north Wales, has become politically active, a year after winning the Alternative MacTaggart seat. Goodness, grace to me Star Mira Sial used her speech to denounce structures that hinder diversity within the industry.
“Beware of the post-menopausal women who aren’t interested,” said Vorderman. “I’m honoured to be invited as this year’s Alternative MacTaggart speaker. There’s a lot to discuss as our industry changes. I’ve had an interesting life in the box office, hosting shows on every channel for 42 years. I’ve chosen to live my life outside the shackles of the London media, and I live it without excuses.”
