The Biden administration will provide economic subsidies to communities affected by gun violence as a way to prevent crime and increase opportunity.
A White House official told PoliticusUSA:
On Wednesday, February 28, Gen. Douglas Emhoff, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) and the Department of Labor (DOL) will host a roundtable on improving job opportunities for communities impacted by gun violence and workforce development and The link between workforce development will be discussed. Violence intervention and prevention.
At the roundtable, DOL will also discuss the Growing Opportunities program, which will provide up to $85 million to improve job opportunities for youth in communities affected by violence and poverty. This recently announced funding opportunity supports programs that provide skills training through work-based learning, employment services, educational support and mentoring to youth and young adults in communities affected by violence, crime and poverty.

This funding, provided by the Growth Opportunity Program, builds on the Biden-Harris Administration's efforts to prevent crime and promote public safety. This includes $15 billion provided by the President's American Rescue Plan to support additional police officers and expand community violence interventions. Crisis responders, etc. The President's bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), the most significant gun safety legislation in 30 years, provides $250 million in funding for community-based violence prevention initiatives in addition to major investments in schools. Expand mental health services and violence intervention programs.
The Biden administration's efforts are a way to reduce gun violence while simultaneously rebuilding communities affected by it. More economic opportunities help create safer communities by eliminating crime and sustaining livelihoods.
In some communities, a lack of economic opportunity can lead young people to turn to crime. The Biden administration sees purpose in what they do.
A senior administration official told PoliticusUSA on a call with reporters:
These funding opportunities will be key to providing needed resources to community organizations and government leaders who provide employment opportunities and investments in the communities most impacted. For those most at risk and most vulnerable to gun violence, we are addressing both lack of economic opportunity and the gun violence crisis.
These kinds of forward-thinking policies are why President Biden remains the right person to deliver the kind of cultural change that comes with a wise president who wants to solve the problems of the American people.
