Looking for the best places to visit in Tenerife with kids? Here's the perfect itinerary for a week in Tenerife with your family. We started our trip in Katowice, Poland. Because we traveled in late February, it was still winter in Europe.
After leaving the cold country, we wanted to get some sunshine in Tenerife, Spain. The weather forecast shows daytime temperatures will average between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius and 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The prediction was right and it was just mild during our stay!
Here's a video of our trip:
Tips for managing long-haul flights with kids
The flight from Poland took 5 hours and 50 minutes. minute. During that time we traveled with Wizzair with our children aged 6 and 3. My advice when traveling with kids is to bring a variety of snacks. Don't pay too much attention to how healthy your snack is. Ultimately, it's all about surviving the trip!
Bring a book, stickers, and a tablet or phone with headphones. Be sure to download offline comics. A good way to do this is with a YouTube Premium account. Netflix is another great option. This will help keep the kids busy throughout the trip. Read my full article (follow the link) to find out how to entertain kids on airplanes.
We agreed to buy one new toy for the kids at the airport and another toy in Tenerife. I think it would be a good idea to set some rules before your trip so your child doesn't beg you to buy something or try a fun new toy every time you go to the store.
We packed our luggage into one large suitcase that could fit a family of four. Other than that, we each had our own carry-on baggage.
Tenerife welcomed us with sunny but windy weather. One of the things that surprised us was how long the days are in Tenerife. The sun sets around 7 am, and the sun rises around 7 pm. So, even in winter, a day in Tenerife lasts 12 hours. In summer, the days are much longer.
Car rental in Tenerife
The best way to travel around Tenerife is by car. So the first thing we did after arriving in Tenerife was to pick up the car we had previously rented online. It is important to note w.I rented a car seat for my 3-year-old. I brought a Mifold folding car seat for my 6-year-old daughter.
Driving in Tenerife is very easy and the roads are excellent.
Things to do in Tenerife with kids
Here are some of the best things to do in Tenerife with kids! Keep in mind that since we were traveling in winter we decided not to visit the water park.
1. Spend time at the beach!
Tenerife has some very amazing beaches with white sand, black sand, rocks and pebbles. We spent time at the beach every day of our seven days stay. Here are some of our favorite beaches in Tenerife:
Tenerife's best beaches for kids
Los Cristianos Beach
The first beach we really liked was Los Cristianos beach. Why did we like it? Los Cristianos beach was never windy and the sand was nice and soft. A big bonus was that there were showers everywhere. The beach is surrounded by restaurants and shops. My kids loved seeing the ships and boats in the sea.
Los Cristianos Beach has everything you need for a relaxing time with your family.
playa garden
The second recommended beach is Playa Jardín. This beach is just a 10-minute walk from the famous Loro Park. This is considered one of the best black sand beaches in Tenerife and we absolutely loved it!
Teresitas Beach
Another beach we really liked was Playa De Las Teresitas. It is rated as the best white sand beach in Tenerife. What's interesting is that the sand in Playa De Las Teresitas was imported from the Sahara Desert!
El Medano Beach
Last but not least is El Medano Beach. El Médano is one of the best places in Tenerife for water sports, which is why it's so windy. The beach is great, but check the weather before you go! Children may not like it if it is too windy.
2. Volcano Teide
No more about the beach! What can you do in Tenerife when you're tired of the sea and sand? You can climb up Mount Teide!
Older kids can also try hiking. Since our kids were still young, we decided to take the cable car to the volcano. We booked our tickets online a few days in advance, but tickets sell out quickly, so it's a good idea to book tickets online too.
You can park your car in front of the cable car entrance, so the whole trip doesn't involve much walking. The view from the volcano is truly amazing! There are no shops or restaurants at the top and you can only spend a maximum of one hour there. 30 minutes was enough for us. The mountains are quite cold so dress warmly.
3. Visit Loro Park!
This zoo is rated the best in the world! We weren't sure why before visiting but nOh, we know. The entire park is beautiful and the nature is so beautiful that I don't want to leave. All animals are well cared for.
If you want to buy snacks or toys, that's okay, but unlike other zoos, they don't force you to buy them. Everything is peaceful and focused on the animals. You can see an animal show at Loro Park. We saw a sea lion show, a dolphin show, and a killer whale show. Everyone was great!!
If you are traveling with younger children, you can rent a stroller at the park. There is a small roller coaster and a Kinderlandia area where children can have fun on the playground.
You don't have to worry about food and drinks as there are plenty of options throughout the park. When I asked my kids what their favorite place in Tenerife was, they both mentioned Loro Park. To be honest, we loved it too!
4. Feed the animals at the monkey park
Monkey Park is a smaller, cheaper alternative to Loro Park. It's especially great for small children because they can hand-feed animals like lemurs, monkeys, and guinea pigs. My kids loved it! We did that too, as we had never had the opportunity to see wild animals this close before.
My recommended visiting tip is to go early in the morning. Arrive immediately after the park opens. It's not as crowded and the animals are hungrier and more likely to get food!
5. Take a dolphin watching cruise
This cruise was an absolute highlight of our trip! We chose a 4.5 hour cruise from Adeje. This included seeing the Los Gigantes cliffs as well as chasing whales and dolphins.
We included alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in the price as well as lunch. For an additional fee of 20 euros, you can use a 2-person sunbed. The number of sunbeds is limited, so be sure to get at the beginning of the line to purchase one!
It was so windy while we were sailing that the whole boat was shaking all the time. We didn't care, we just enjoyed the beautiful weather! We only saw bottlenose dolphins, but that was enough for us.
6- Visit the Science Museum and Cosmos
If it's windy or cold, visit the Science Museum and Cosmos. There aren't many indoor activities in Tenerife, so the Science Museum is pretty unique.
My kids loved learning about science and space. Although most of the museum is in Spanish, it's still interactive and keeps the kids busy.
7- Visit Guimar Pyramid
Did you know that there are pyramids in Tenerife? We didn't know until we visited this beautiful island!
No one knows why this building was built, but you will find it quite impressive. The Canary Pyramids became famous because of Thor Heyerdahl, famous for his Kon Tiki expedition.
Besides seeing the pyramids, you can learn more about this amazing man by visiting the museum. There is a small playground where children can have fun. It is located in the pyramid area.
Where to eat in Tenerife with kids?
La Pepa Food Market
This was our favorite place to eat in Tenerife! La Pepa Food Market is located in Los Cristianos. This is the same town where our favorite beach is located.
This food market has a variety of food options ranging from Italian to American, Asian and Spanish. What I liked most about La Pepa Food Market is that it has a children's play area.
You can leave your kids there and eat in peace. The women who work there will bring your child back if you need them. You can even watch the kids play, so I can't imagine a better place to eat for families traveling to Tenerife with young children.
twenty 04
Our second recommendation is Veinte 04. There is a playground right in front of the restaurant. The food is delicious, great for breakfast
So this is it! We stayed at Edificio Aguamarina and really liked the apartment. If you are wondering what is the best area to stay in Tenerife, I would recommend one of the following: Christian or cross port.
