Applied Motion Products Inc. this week launched its MDX+ Series family of low-voltage systems, which integrates a servo drive, motor and encoder into one package. The family includes systems with 100, 200, 400 and 550W power outputs.
The Morgan Hill, California-based company says its product line supports pulse train-based control methods, including pulse/direction, CW/CCW, and encoder tracking. It also supports RS-485, CANopen and EtherCAT.
Additionally, Applied Motion Products (AMP) offers a package with electromagnetic brakes to meet the safety requirements of today's industries and says it will soon be available for STO. [safe torque off].” The company claimed that its MDX+ servo series is suitable for manufacturers in the logistics, automated guided vehicles (AGV), medical, semiconductor, packaging, textile, electronic inspection, and solar industries.

Applied Motion Products shares servo specifications.
AMP said it designed the MDX+ series to be small and compact. In this way, it is claimed to be as capable as a stand-alone motor and drive system, albeit in a smaller size.
The company added that this design, which is at least 20% smaller than standalone solutions, can benefit applications with limited footprint.
MDX+ servo drives are debugged by Luna software. AMP said Luna can assist users with configuration, tuning and troubleshooting of the MDX+ family. Software and drive connect via USB for fast and reliable communication.
Applied Motion Products lists the following features of the MDX+ family:
- Drive and motor integration provides compact design
- Main power supports 24-60 VDC, auxiliary power supports 24 VDC
- Standardized frame sizes of 40/60/80mm, covering power ranges from 100W to 550W
- EtherCAT, CANopen and RS-485 options
- Equipped with 17-bit magnetic incremental encoder or 17-bit batteryless absolute encoder
- Precise positioning and control
- Supports position, speed, and torque control
- Built-in brake option available
- IP20 or IP65 options available
Founded in 1978, Applied Motion Products says it manufactures high-performance motion control components for OEMs in a wide range of applications. In 2014, we established a joint venture with Moons' Shanghai, a leader in motion control and intelligent lighting.
AMP said the partnership will enable it to provide supply chain stability and vertical integration to its customers. The partner has a research and development center and holds more than 200 patents for inventions, utility models, appearance and software copyrights.
