Shazam has long been a popular app for people who want to know what songs they're listening to, but now it's better than ever thanks to the new version 17.3 update.
The new update, now available for download via the App Store, adds support for identifying songs from other apps while listening through headphones for the first time.
The new feature already allowed Shazam to identify songs within other apps, but previously it could only do so while headphones were unplugged, somewhat limiting its usefulness. Things have now changed in Shazam 17.3.
music to your ears
The new update, available to download for free now, works with both wired and Bluetooth headphones and earbuds, so you can use AirPods, AirPods Max, and third-party options alike. It's worth noting here that there is no requirement for Apple accessories.
“You can now identify your music even while wearing headphones (wired or Bluetooth),” the app’s release notes explain. “Open the app and check the headphones icon to make sure your headphones are connected, then start recognizing music around you or within apps like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.”
Apple acquired Shazam in 2017 and has been steadily integrating it with iOS and other software over the years. The app offers several widgets for quick music identification and more, but the ability to identify music within other apps is a huge help for people who hear a song in a commercial or video and want to know what it is.
