All-Stars are selected by votes from fans, WNBA players and sportswriters, which account for 50%, 25% and 25% of the votes, respectively.
The five players who received the most votes in the fan vote were Clarke (700,735 votes), Boston (618,680 votes), Wilson (607,300 votes), Stewart (424,135 votes), and Reese (381,518 votes).
Clark and Reese developed a rivalry after facing off in the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship, a tournament that was marked by controversy over sportsmanship between their respective teams, Iowa and LSU. LSU beat Iowa last year, and Iowa beat LSU in an Elite Eight rematch earlier this year. Iowa made it to the championship again this year, but lost to South Carolina.
The top 10 players with the most votes overall were considered first. Six players (Collier, Copper, Ionesecu, Stewart, Wilson, Young) made the Olympic roster, while Boston, Clark, Hamby, and Ogunbowale were automatically selected to Team WNBA.
A list of players with the most votes was sent to WNBA coaches, who then voted for the players to fill the remaining eight spots on Team WNBA. Coaches were not allowed to vote for players on their own teams.
The WNBA All-Star Game will be the second game between an Olympic team and Team WNBA. The first was in 2021 ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
