We write a lot about airplanes here at AirlineReporter. We write a lot about airports. We tried our hand at train reporting. We generally do not publish articles about hotels. But I'll make an exception for the right type of place (HotelReporter?!).
During our trip to Tokyo, we spent a night at the Excel Hotel at Haneda Airport, one of the best airplane observation hotels in the world. You don’t have to take our word for it. The hotel is frequently named on AvGeeks' lists of the world's best places to stay. And boy did he deliver. Check out the video report here:
There's more to the story. Read on!
We arrived in Tokyo on an amazing JAL 777-300ER flight, spent some time in the city and then spent the night at the Excel Hotel before flying to our next destination.
This hotel is located at the northern end of Haneda Terminal 2, which primarily handles ANA domestic flights. These operations rely heavily on wide-body aircraft such as the 767, 777, and 787, so there is still plenty of big game to be discovered. It also offers front-row seating on Runway 34R, which caters to everyone, including long-haulers.
Book a “Runway View” room. Offering that category makes it clear to the hotel that this is a place for watchers. Although those rooms are a little more expensive (I spent $190 per night), it's nice to be guaranteed a view when you book.
Or if you're thinking of going full throttle At AvGeek, you can reserve a “cockpit” with a life-size 737 simulator inside. Earnestly.
We had a great time watching airplanes during our 24 hours at the hotel. And in our experience, it's easy to spend a night here during your trip to Tokyo. If you are flying from another terminal in Haneda, you can take the subway or free bus to Terminal 2. If you have stayed at Excel Hotel Haneda or know of another hotel with great airport views, please leave a comment below. .
