A Beach B-200 Super King aircraft malfunction was reported at Newcastle Airport in New South Wales, Australia, forcing the pilot to land the aircraft without landing gear, a video posted on social media showed.
The plane was burning fuel as it circled around the New South Wales airport before the pilot raised the wheels and initiated an emergency landing. Nine News The report suggested Monday.
The video also went viral on social media, and the plane can be seen approaching the runway without its landing gear displayed. It gradually descended and slid along the runway until it landed and came to a stop.
The pilot and passenger were unharmed during landing as emergency crews were on standby to rescue them.
NSW Police Chief Constable Wayne Humphrey praised the 53-year-old pilot for carrying out the successful landing. He said no one was hurt and his passengers were able to drive home, the outlet reported.
Humphrey also said: “It was a great result, the pilot did a really good job. I could hear him in the air and he sounded very calm to me.”
“When the plane landed safely, the people in the control room guiding the plane down burst into applause,” Humphrey said.
