HARVEST, Alabama (TCD) — A 36-year-old former campaign chairman has been charged with raping and killing a 54-year-old man during a dispute.
According to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff's Office: On March 7, deputies responded to a home on Capshaw Road and found Derek Walls dead. Police identified Kyle Lewter as the main suspect in the victim's death and arrested him on suspicion of murder.
According to Madison County Detention Center records: Lewter is also accused of sexual abuse with an inanimate object, or sexual torture.
Police suspect that the two men knew each other and got into a fight that resulted in Walls' death. Court documents reviewed by WHNT-TV They say Walls died from blunt force trauma caused by a hammer. Lewter allegedly sexually assaulted the man with an inanimate object while he was still alive.
According to WHNT, Lewter reportedly worked as a campaign chairman in the office of Sen. Tom Butler and previously served as vice president of the Madison County Young Republicans Club.
