Accor is rapidly developing its network of airport hotels across the Pacific region with the completion of its A$230 million dual hotel development, Novotel and Ibis Styles Melbourne Airport, on 1 July. It is the largest airport hotel operator in the region.
From 2014 to 2024, Accor increased the number of airport hotels in the Pacific region by 144%. In 2024 there were 22 airport hotels, compared to 9 in 2014.
“Airport hotels are no longer limited to transit travellers. It is the engine of a brand-new integrated mixed-use development that has evolved to deliver a complete mix of business, retail, industrial and tourism activities,” said Adrian Williams, Chief Operating Officer, Accor Pacific PM&E.
“Airport precincts are transforming into mini-cities in their own right, driven by demand drivers.
“Novotel and Ibis Styles Melbourne Airport are prime examples of hotels that are driving this demand and providing more than just a place to sleep for a night. In particular, we expect the hotel to become a very popular venue for conferences, events, incentives and functions, given the wide range of leisure facilities available in the area.

“The area around Melbourne Airport is thriving and with attractions such as UrbanSurf and iFLY within 15 minutes of the airport, the hotel is well located and designed for satisfied leisure guests and meeting groups.
“The reasons for staying in airport hotels are growing exponentially, especially in Melbourne, where there is a lack of integrated transport options to the terminals, so staying overnight in one of our hotels to relax and prepare for a major international trip is one of the best investments you can make. Travelers can make it. Starting your long-distance international trip stress-free can be very beneficial to your well-being.”
Australia's first airport 'resort' opened in December last year following a A$30 million investment by Airport Development Group (ADG) to upgrade and consolidate the award-winning Novotel and Mercure Darwin Airport hotels.
In New Zealand, Accor recently added a Pullman hotel to its existing Novotel and Ibis properties at Auckland Airport.
