The National School Games (NSG) 2024 began on January 30, 2024, with over 65,000 student-athletes representing their schools across 29 sports.
New pool and league competition formats are being introduced this year to provide student athletes with more opportunities to compete. In many team sports, such as badminton, soccer, and hockey, student athletes play at least six games. This compares to the traditional competitive format where you can be eliminated after the first match. This allows teams of similar ability to play in the same pool, providing a positive competitive and learning experience for participating student-athletes.
Punggol Green Primary School badminton player Koh Jun Chen Nicholas Junior is excited about the new format. “We have more fun during the competition because we get more exposure and more opportunities to play,” says the sixth-grader.

Meanwhile, Tampines Secondary School's Sharifah Nur Amanina Binte Syed Mohamad Shahab said she was looking forward to playing for NSG.
The fourth-year secondary student, who is captain of her school's B division girls' soccer team, says: “NSG is a time for me and my teammates to work hard as a team, win games and win gold medals. This is our goal this year. ”
