Matthew Said When modifying a spool:
“Self-justification is insidious. Lying to yourself destroys the very possibility of learning. It is difficult to assume that the systems were functioning properly when the plane crashed. The failures are so stark and dramatic. Most failures don't. Most failures can be modified. You cling to a million justifications: ‘It was a one-off,’ ‘It was an unusual incident,’ ‘We did everything we could.’”

Sam Walker How to find a leader:
“I began to suspect that the real reason we couldn't agree on a formula for elite team leadership was because we had made things too complicated. We've been so busy scanning the horizon for shapeshifting knights in shining armor that we've ignored the more likely truth. There are hundreds of thousands of potentially transformative leaders among us. “We just lack the ability to recognize them.”
