COON RAPIDS, Minn. (TCD) — A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a couple and their 20-year-old son in their home where their two young children were present.
According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, on Jan. 26 at 12:24 p.m., county dispatch received a call reporting “a disturbance being heard in the background.” Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a call near the 200 block of 94th Street Northwest. When they arrived, they found two adult males and an adult female deceased. The sheriff's office said there were two young children inside at the time of the incident, but they were not injured.
On Monday, January 29, the Sheriff's Office identified the victims as 42-year-old Shannon Patricia Jungwirth, her husband, 39-year-old Mario Alberto Trejo Estrada, and her son, Jorge Alexander Reyes-Jungwirth. Alonzo Mingo was taken into custody and charged with three counts of second-degree murder.
According to court documents cited by the Star Tribune, on the day of the shooting, Mingo and one other accomplice were reportedly wearing clothes that looked similar to UPS delivery drivers, and a third accomplice was reportedly holding a cardboard box. Mingo worked at UPS until January.
Surveillance from inside the home reportedly showed Mingo and Trejo Estrada entering the bedroom where Jungwirth and her two young children were. The Star Tribune reported that Mingo pointed a gun at the couple and ordered them to give him money. He allegedly shot Jungwirth in the head with the children in the room. Trejo Estrada and Reyes-Jungwirth were found with gunshot wounds to the head in different parts of the residence.
Trejo Estrada was reportedly involved in drug trafficking in the Minneapolis-St. The St. Paul area is known to handle cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine. Court documents say he transferred money “on multiple occasions to various individuals in Mexico.”
Investigators reportedly searched a warehouse rented by Trejo Estrada and found psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine and other drugs.
When interviewed by investigators, Mingo reportedly said he was home at the time of the incident and had never worked for UPS.
