A new Center for Inclusive Excellence and Belonging is being established across 25 CUNY campuses to increase understanding and leverage system-wide resources.
To combat hate, the Center will oversee training and strengthen reporting and policy objectives to ensure consistency and accountability.
CUNY President William C. Thompson Jr. said, “The Board of Trustees of the City University of New York believes in the dignity of all human beings regardless of ethnicity, race, color, sex, national origin, religion, and disability.” The board of directors approved the establishment of the center.
“This Center for Inclusive Excellence and Belonging will centralize this work, ensuring consistency and accountability across all campuses and ensuring students, faculty and staff are protected and respected,” he said. “We want to be a national leader in this field.”
The Center serves as the University's administrative arm that oversees the process of processing, monitoring, and responding to all complaints involving violations of University policies on anti-discrimination and harassment, including Title VI complaints.
We will also monitor the annual training for the new Chief Diversity Officer and the annual orientation program on cultural sensitivity issues for the Public Safety Officer. Review and implement anti-discrimination policies and procedures. Assist in handling complaints submitted by students, faculty, and staff.
