Following a successful proof-of-concept pilot in 2023, Agility recently announced a multi-year agreement with GXO Logistics, Inc. to use Digit robots in GXO warehouses.
“There will be many firsts in the humanoid robotics market over the next few years, but Agility is the first to deploy real humanoid robots at customer sites to drive revenue and solve real business problems,” said Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics. “I’m very proud,” he said. “Agility has always leveraged Digit to focus on the only metrics that matter to deliver value to our customers, and this groundbreaking deployment has raised the bar for the entire industry.”

Digit, a mobile manipulator robot (MMR) with a payload capacity of 15.9 kg (35 lbs), is perhaps best known for its unique ‘backwards-facing’ legs. Under the RaaS agreement, GXO will deploy Digit’s fleet and Agility Arc, a cloud-based automation platform that provides full robot control and simplifies processes such as facility mapping, workflow definition, operations management and troubleshooting.
Digit and Agility Arc integrate with the Spanx factory's existing automation. Following last year's pilot, Digit now supports repetitive tasks, such as taking totes from other bots and placing them on a conveyor.
“We are building on the success of our groundbreaking pilot with Agility last year by deploying fully functional Digit humanoids into real-world warehouse environments,” said Adrian Stoch, Chief Automation Officer at GXO. “Our R&D approach is to partner with developers around the world to help build and validate real-world use cases that optimize our customers’ operations while improving their employees’ working environments. Agility shares this philosophy and Digit is the perfect addition to work with your employees in your fulfillment center. We are excited to advance our partnership through this important milestone.”

The RaaS agreement also allows the two companies to explore additional use cases for Digit and scale robot usage on demand throughout the deployment period.
Digit is already the winner of the Robot of the Year award at the RBR50 Robotics Innovation Awards in early 2024.
