Jodie Foster makes a surprising admission in a candid interview with Jodie Comer. Interview Magazine. Despite her famous acting career, she never had any passion for acting.
The Academy Award-winning actress admits that her true passion is filmmaking and that she has no natural aptitude for acting.
“I was hooked on it when I was three years old,” she explained.
“I probably would have been a lawyer or a college professor. That's not my way. So I loved the technical side of filmmaking, but I never fell in love with the acting side. “It went against my nature, and I think it made me richer.”
The True Detective actress said she used to distance herself from her co-stars on set, but has learned a lot about herself over her now decades-long acting career.
“I always made movies about my characters on my own and never had to deal with other actors. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to understand that it’s selfish to jealously guard something I don’t want to share,” Foster told Comer.
“Now I’m learning to say, ‘How are we together and dynamic?’ Instead, it's all about me. “It’s so interesting to see all these actors who are now doing everything differently.”
When it comes to the filmmaking side of the business, the Panic Room star, who has directed films like Money Monster and Home for the Holidays multiple times, admitted that his approach as a director is unique.
“When I direct, I like to talk and tell people about technology, but I don’t like to get into the actor’s body. Because I think it’s invasive,” she explained. “Try saying ‘faster, slower.’ “Say, ‘I didn’t feel that part,’ but don’t talk about your childhood and don’t try to become one with me,” she said.
