Anaheim, California – Moreno Valley Unified School District in Riverside County, California, recently opened a Cyber Innovation Center at Canyon Springs High School. It is home to the Cybersecurity Pathway Program and has been recognized by the National Initiative for Cyber Education as the first center for a K-12 public school district. Here, students gain knowledge and skills in computer network maintenance and cybersecurity, while earning college credit and CompTIA certification. The late Aaron Barnett, IT director at Moreno Valley USD, and Donna Woods, MSc.Ed., senior instructor at the center, led the creation of the academic program and 7,600 SF facility. Integral to the center's training and esports competition activities is an extensive audiovisual system powered by Extron switching, distribution, control and audio, with NAV® Pro AV over IP at the center of AV signal distribution.
“AV systems provide a high level of impact and an outstanding impression on visitors and participants in community service programs,” says Donna Woods, Cyber Pathway Instructor and Master of Career Technical Education. “Extron worked with instructors on AV system design courses to understand the specific purpose and application of each course. Extron customized the AV system while providing training and support during and after installation. The instructors have been exemplary in their follow-up as they begin to use systems to ensure everything is running effectively.”
The main educational space is the e-sports computer room, cyber classroom, and cyber innovation lab, which serves as a classroom and venue for e-sports and cyber defense competitions. The center also features a mentoring conference room and practical workstations equipped with server racks and network equipment. Connecting all rooms is a NAV Pro AV over IP system that allows any AV source to be seen and heard on any display. Supporting this critical distribution backbone are a variety of Extron switching and distribution components, including HDMI switchers, DTP wallplates, ShareLink Pro wireless presentation gateways, DMP audio DSP processors, XPA and NetPA amplifiers, Flat Field and SoundField speakers and subwoofers, and IPCP Pro. and control equipment. Control processor, TouchLink Pro touchpanel, and Extron Control app. Graduates of Moreno Valley's Cyber Academic Pathway program have landed high-paying software security and IT positions in industry. The success of these students is even more impressive because Moreno Valley USD is eligible to participate in the U.S. federal Title I education program for low-income students.
