For each vocabulary word, students write what they think the word means. Then use a dictionary to find out what it actually means!

Students write vocabulary words on the lines in each box and draw pictures showing the meaning of each word.
Write it down!
For each vocabulary word, students use context clues to write a sentence that shows they know what that word means. For example, “She is timid” does not show what they know. fainthearted It means 'the timid child hid behind his mother and did not answer my question.'
Sort parts of speech
Students sort their vocabulary into the correct categories: nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
Solve the riddle
Have students choose one of the vocabulary words they use and write four clues to help someone guess the word correctly (you can use a dictionary to help). Then you can try it out on your classmates!

For the vocabulary they choose, students write definitions, provide synonyms and antonyms, draw pictures, and use them in sentences.

1 = Define the word.
2 = Use the word in a sentence.

4 = Write the antonym of the word.
