According to a new iPhone 16 Pro Max leak, Apple's top iPhone for 2024 will feature not one, but two new cameras, including an all-new Ultra Wide camera.
The information is delivered through Weibo. Egg BallAuthor: Source OvO Apple claims that the iPhone 16 Pro will retain the Sony IMX803 sensor that currently powers the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to feature the latest IMX903 for both the main camera and ultra-wide lens, which will be a significant upgrade to 48MP. The IMX903 boasts a larger 1/1.14 sensor compared to the 803, allowing the sensor to capture more light. According to reports, the IMX903 upgrade will be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but the iPhone 16 Pro will feature an upgraded 48MP ultra-wide lens.
The leak also suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro will inherit the iPhone 15 Pro Max's 5x telephoto lens for improved optical zoom functionality, which is currently not available on the smaller iPhone 15 Pro.

This isn't the first time we've heard that the iPhone 16 Pro is getting an imminent 48MP Ultra Wide upgrade, nor is it the first time we've heard that both models are scheduled for a 5x upgrade this year. An IMX903 sensor upgrade was also rumored back in January. This switch creates better, brighter photos overall on your iPhone 16 Pro Max while also significantly improving low-light performance. According to previous leaks about the IMX903's inclusion in the iPhone lineup, Apple is expected to use a new multilayer sensor and a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital gain control (DCG). To reduce noise in your photos, you need to combine them.
The move would continue Apple's trend of offering slightly better camera performance on its biggest and best phones. Camera upgrades aside, the new iPhone 16 Pro family is expected to feature a new A18 chip, dubbed “Pro”, like the A17 series, along with thinner bezels and a larger form factor. Apple is expected to release the Pro iPhone in 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes, up from the currently available 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models. If all goes according to plan, the new iPhones are expected to be released in early September, will be running iOS 18, and will be unveiled at WWDC 2024.
