“American Fiction” star Jeffrey Wright chatted with “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi just hours after being nominated for the Best Actor Oscar!
He said it was “delightful” to see the Academy recognize him and his colleagues. The film also won Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Sterling K. Brown, among other nominations.
Jeffrey said to Mona: “We found this story interesting, smart, timely and entertaining, and I’m thrilled that the Academy and our peers seem to agree.”
Wright also revealed how he got the news by 'hanging around' his home in Brooklyn. His publicist was the first to break the news, and the calls and texts continued.
“It’s been pouring in from my colleagues, people I know in the industry, my family. I’m pretty proud of everyone,” he said.
Wright became emotional as he spoke about his late mother. “The first person I recognized was my mom,” she said. “There was a picture of her right there, so she and I had a moment.”

Moreover, he has his next projects lined up, including another ‘Batman’ that will be released soon.
He said, “I haven’t read the script for the next film ‘Batman’ yet. I know Matt. [Reeves] He is working and writing, and I look forward to reading what he writes. But yes. That’s definitely in the plan.”
