Aloha Liberation Project
The Aloha Unleashed project builds on the success of the original Aloha lyric robot. Last January, the research team amazed the world by demonstrating the open-source Aloha Robot's kitchen technology. Now they've taken it a step further and focused on complex tasks like tying shoelaces, hanging shirts and even repairing other robots.

Improvement and Innovation
The Aloha Unleashed team made five major upgrades to the robot's design.
One) Improved manipulator arm: The Aloha 2 manipulator arm is the heart of this project. This arm has been carefully developed to improve performance and durability. Facing such arm pairs allows for more complex tasks and vehicle-scale data collection.
2) A smarter gripper: The scissor mechanism of the gripper has been replaced with a low-friction rail. These modifications allow the robot to grasp smaller objects with precision.
three) Advanced Cameras: Smaller RealSense cameras with a wider field of view provide better visual input to the robot's decision-making process.
4) Gravity Compensation: A manual gravity compensation setup using off-the-shelf components supports the leader arm during remote operation.
5) Simulation model: The team created an improved simulation model that improved accuracy and visual fidelity. This model helps train robots for a variety of tasks.
