ICICI Bank said the rumor appears to be being spread with ulterior motives and malicious intent to harm the bank and its stakeholders.
ICICI Bank on Thursday denied a report by a news portal that the lender's MD and CEO Sandeep Bakhshi was planning to resign. “The information is a figment of imagination and is therefore completely baseless and misleading,” ICICI Bank said on Thursday.
“We would like to completely deny the statement made in the article regarding the ICICI Bank MD’s intention to resign due to personal reasons. This information is a product of imagination and is therefore completely baseless and misleading. “These rumors appear to be being spread with ulterior motives and malicious intent to harm the bank and its stakeholders,” ICICI Bank said in a statement.
According to an article in The Morning Context citing sources, Bakhshi has expressed his desire to step down as MD and CEO of ICICI Bank. “He has a personal emergency. That's why he wants to step down. He said the central bank offered to work remotely if necessary and asked him not to resign.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved extending Bakshi's term by three years in September last year. The reappointment, announced by the bank's board of directors in October 2022, was subsequently approved by shareholders at the annual general meeting.
Shares of ICICI Bank on Thursday fell Rs 16.05 or 1.39 per cent to Rs 1,136 on the BSE at 1.09 pm.
