The Wall Street Journal reported, “As President Trump entered court on the first day of his first criminal indictment, he wanted to make clear that it was the system, not him, that was actually on trial.”
“This is an attack on America,” President Trump said. This is political persecution, and it is a persecution like never before. “This is a case that should never have been brought up,” he said.
“He then walked into the courtroom where he would spend most of the week and many more to come in a scene that seemed destined to be the defining scene of this election. “The defense is trying to convince jurors of his peers whether he is guilty of a felony for concealing a hush money payment to an adult film star on the eve of the 2016 election.”
“Trump and his opponents agree that there are far more important issues than the details of the allegations. According to both sides, this case will be a referendum on the rule of law, the integrity of elections, and the nature of accountability at a time when everything is in question.”
The Independent: Outside the court, Trump tries to control the narrative. Inside, he has no choice but to sit quietly.
