Can’t travel to a Caribbean island? Here's the next best thing!
What is Rum Punch?
Rum Punch is a summer cocktail with a tropical flavor that combines two types of rum and fruit juice. There are many different rum punch recipes, but this basic Jamaican version is the most popular and will probably be served on your Montego Bay vacation.
Another of our favorite Jamaican recipes from this tropical paradise is the slightly boozy Jamaican Easter Bread. Once you taste it, you'll be making it all year long.
Jamaican Rum Punch Recipe Ingredients
Just like in Jamaica, simple ingredients were used.
- The two types of rum in this rum punch give this tropical cocktail the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Dark flavored rums provide a bit of kick and are delicious when paired with lighter rums.
- We used a mixture of orange juice, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice and added a little grenadine.
Other than that, all you need is the decorations you want. We used orange slices and maraschino cherries.
How to Make the Perfect Jamaican Rum Punch
Add 1 ounce of orange juice and pineapple juice to a cocktail shaker.
Pour 1 ounce of white rum into shaker.
Add strong flavored rum.
Pour in the cranberry juice.
A drizzle of grenadine adds a little sweetness and color. Nothing will ruin a drink faster than using too much pomegranate syrup, so don't overdo it. If you don't like pomegranate juice, use simple syrup instead.
Add ice and shake to mix everything and chill your drink.
Add fresh ice to a cocktail glass. Strain the drink into a glass.
Garnish with fresh orange slices and maraschino cherries. Pineapple wedges also make a festive tropical cocktail.
How strong is rum?
This recipe uses classic Bacardi rum, which has an alcohol content of 37.4%. Not to be confused with Bacardi 151, which has 75.5% alcohol content.
What other juices can I use?
Almost any fruit juice is delicious in this cocktail. I'll try peach juice, apple juice, and fruit punch mix.
Can I make this rum punch in advance?
You can do it! We recommend skipping the step of adding ice. Pour over ice when your party guests arrive.
Rum Punch Cocktail Making Tips
Bacardi is one of the most popular rums, but try different types of rum. Malibu Coconut Rum would be so delicious for a change. If you love coconut, you’ll love this addition!
Add extra pomegranate syrup to get a pretty ombré color.
A little strawberry syrup and a squeeze of lime makes another popular Jamaican cocktail called Reggae Rum Punch.
If you don't have an ice maker, buy a large bag of ice or fill several ice trays (and keep them filled). This drink should be served ice cold!
At your next party, why not serve your cocktails in a large punch bowl to make it easier for your guests to drink them? Start by finding out how many ounces it can hold and doing some simple math.
On average, a 20-person rum punch requires about 60 ounces of rum. So for this drink, you multiply the juice by 30, so you would need 30 ounces of orange juice, 30 ounces of pineapple juice, etc. idea. You can serve it in a large jug for easy pouring, but it's not as festive.
