CASTROVILLE, CA (TCD) — A 38-year-old man will spend five years in state prison for prostituting his minor family member for thousands of dollars.
Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni made the announcement. On March 20, a judge sentenced Obdulio Aparicio after finding him guilty of one count of trafficking of a minor for commercial sex, one count of child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence. Aparicio must register as a sex offender for life.
According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office., on April 28, 2023, deputies responded to a report of possible child abuse by North Monterey County School District officers in the 11000 block of Merritt Street. Investigators learned that Aparicio sold one of his relatives, 14-year-old Jane Doe, to Javier Saavedra for $12,000.
Jane Doe was reportedly living with 20-year-old Saavedra in the 300 block of Iris Drive in Salinas, California when deputies received the report. As officials began their investigation, they also learned that Aparicio had previously pushed her wife, causing bruises and cuts.
Police initially arrested Saavedra on charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 3 years of age, sodomy with a person under 18 years of age, and oral copulation with a minor.
Saavedra was found guilty in October 2023 of statutory rape of Jane Doe and oral copulation on a person under the age of 18, according to the District Attorney's Office. Saavedra was sentenced to 270 days in jail, three years of felony probation and ordered to participate in a sex offender treatment program.
