Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., sparked a wave of angry reactions after passing the latest government spending bill and touting it as averting a shutdown.
In a post shared with X just after 2 a.m. ET on Saturday, Klobuchar told her followers about the $1.2 trillion federal spending package: “you're welcome.”
She wrote, “Hello two amers! For all of you still awake, we passed the budget and avoided a shutdown. You're welcome.”

The spending package passed 74-24 in the Senate, but faced more opposition when voted on in the House, where a majority of Republicans voted against it. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., introduced a motion to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., from office in order to pass the package.
Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas also killed the package because it did not provide funding to secure the U.S. southern border. “Any Republican who votes for this bill should be ashamed,” he said.
Several Republican senators lambasted the bill's passage, criticizing those who submitted the 1,012-page package less than two days before it was due to pass.
Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, told Fox News Digital it was “a completely absurd, insulting and unlawful suggestion that that is the proper legislative process.”
“This is a crazy way to run the country,” added Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla.

Author and conservative commentator John Hawkins tore into the congressman's words, writing, “This is government in a nutshell. After wasting so much money on useless crap we didn't want in the first place, I want to thank you for it.”
Royce White, a professional basketball player and 2024 U.S. Senate candidate, posted, “They have the audacity to act like they're doing you a favor…inflation. #Godspeed.”
Heavy metal singer and conservative commentator Phil Labonte trashed Klobuchar's post, saying, “Saying 'You're welcome' is like driving nails into a chalk board.”
“I wish the government would shut down because I’m sick of you guys wasting our money,” former UFC fighter Jake Shields said.
Commentator Doug Powers responded to Klobuchar's post with a graphic explanation of the current national debt: “Yes, thank you.”
Conservative musician 'Five Times August' criticized the senator, saying, “You are a truly terrible person.”
