Iceland, known as the “Land of Fire and Ice,” is a beautiful mountainous island nation famous for its volcanoes and glaciers. Iceland is easy to travel by car, so consider the following highlights from various regions for your next summer vacation in Iceland. Take advantage of the midnight sun to enjoy the history, traditions and culture that are still deep within the Icelandic people.
Metropolitan area – Enjoy an afternoon exploring Reykjavík's top attractions, such as Hallgrímskirkja Church and the statue of Leif Ericson. During the summer months of May and August, consider a trip to the Grotta Nature Reserve at the tip of the Selczarnarnes Peninsula for your chance to see the Northern Lights.
Western Region – Enjoy the Glymur waterfall, photograph the Budir Black Church, and check out the Vatnshellir lava tube.
Northern region – Explore the Diamond Circle tourist trail and its five main attractions: Godafoss Waterfall, Hussavik Whale Watching, Asbirgi Gorge, Dettifoss Waterfall and Lake Myvatn.

Southern Region – Follow the Golden Circle tourist route to three natural attractions: Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall and Þingvellir National Park.
Southern Peninsula – End your trip with a visit to the Blue Lagoon, a luxury spa and hot spring, and Fagradalfjall Volcano, which recently erupted in March 2021 after being dormant for about 6,000 years.
