A lot of strange things are happening around the world, baffling netizens one after another as people share their experiences with new encounters.
A post went viral on Facebook about an unusual egg-like object being discovered in a lake in Oklahoma.
The discovery was announced March 12 by the Oklahoma Department of Fire and Conservation. “If you’re boating in places like McGee Creek Reservoir, you might find strange jelly-like balls hanging from submerged tree branches.”
The agency refuted the alien egg claim in the post, adding: “These are bryophytes and are likely to appear in large numbers this summer. These microorganisms are native and pose no danger to you or wildlife, so don’t be alarmed. In fact, they are an indicator of good environmental quality and clean water!”
The photo was so amazing that it shocked users, with some calling it a Godzilla egg.
“All I can imagine is if I touched it or it touched me while I was in the water. I would be scared,” one user wrote on Facebook.
Oklahoma State went on to say: “The entities, called ‘zooids,’ continue to replicate themselves until they build large clumps that filter small particles from the water for food.”
“What makes it look and feel like jelly? Well, it's a soft shell made of a substance called chitin. Chitin hardens when it dries and can preserve the organism until it can be rehydrated.”
“These animals are an important part of the ecosystem because they help clean the water and serve as food for mussels, snails and even small fish. They often spread through water connections or even by passing through the intestines of fish or birds!”
