LSU Women's Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey criticized the media for reporting Sunday's clash between South Carolina and LSU during the Southeastern Conference tournament championship, saying it was “a little sexist.”
During an appearance on her weekly radio show on Tuesday, Mulkey took issue with the depiction of the fight and the resulting 6 players are being sent off Late in the fourth quarter of South Carolina's victory.
“That’s what happens when you have two tough teams that play very hard, are good and compete,” Mulkey said, via nola.com.

“The media is so out of control now. When men do it, it doesn't get as much attention. So why do you keep writing about women? That's really what it says. Let me just say it.” That comes across as a bit sexist and you're destroying two great teams. You are tearing down the woman who coaches one of those teams. Stop it, it's not newsworthy after the first introduction. I watched all the men's games. Something like that happened, but it wasn’t a big deal.”

Mulkey doubled down on his response in a separate radio appearance Tuesday.
“I am who I am,” Mulkey said, via NOLA.com. “I have no bad intentions. I have no plans. I speak from my heart. I speak from my life experience. And people either like it or they don't like it. There is nothing in my heart to harm anyone. I fight like hell. . That's who I am.”

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley apologized for the incident after Sunday's game.
“I don’t want people who care about women’s basketball to look at that and think that’s our game, because it’s not,” she said. “Our game is truly beautiful.”
Cardoso will serve a one-game suspension under NCAA rules and will miss the Gamecocks' NCAA Tournament opener next week. Johnson's younger brother was also arrested and charged with jumping on the scorer's table to join the game.
