DALLAS — AT&T said it would pay $5 each to affected customers to compensate for a cell phone network outage that left many people without service for hours last week.
The Dallas-based company said on its website that customers will receive a $5 credit to their accounts within two billing cycles. This credit does not apply to AT&T Business, a prepaid service, or Cricket, a low-cost wireless service. AT&T said prepaid customers will have options available if they are affected, but did not elaborate on what those options might be.
The outage has disrupted cellphone service for thousands of users across the U.S. since early Thursday before being restored. AT&T blamed the incident on a coding error and said it was not the result of a cyberattack, without elaborating.
