What is a concluding sentence?
A concluding paragraph is required at the end of every essay, research paper, research report, or speech. This allows the author to summarize key points and reinforce the main idea (thesis), encouraging the reader to consider what he or she has said. It may also contain a call to action, encouraging the reader to adopt a particular point of view or take a particular action. A good conclusion has a lasting impact, leaving the reader with a clear impression of what they have just read.
The concluding sentence is usually the sentence that begins the last paragraph. This sentence uses language that indicates that the writer is concluding the piece and urges the reader to pay close attention. The writer does not necessarily have to use a typical concluding sentence beginning, but he or she should find a way to indicate that he or she is wrapping up the idea. Concluding sentence beginnings are an easy way to do so.
