DES MOINES, Iowa (TCD) — A 16-year-old boy arrested this week on suspicion of stabbing his 19-year-old brother to death has been charged with first-degree murder.
According to the Des Moines Police Department, police and paramedics responded around 10:15 a.m. June 11 in reference to a stabbing at an apartment on Oakridge Drive. Upon arrival, a 19-year-old male was found with injuries inside and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The victim, identified as Abdelmagid Elzubeir, later died in hospital from his injuries.
Police said they found and arrested the 16-year-old suspect “within minutes” of their arrival. Investigators alleged that the suspect, Mohamed El-Jubeir, “premeditatedly stabbed the victim in the neck.”
Mohamed Elzubeir and Abdelmagid Elzubeir are brothers.
The Des Moines Register reports that Mohamed Elzubeir was charged as an adult but is being held in a juvenile detention facility on $1 million bail.
Their father described Abdelmagid Elzubeir as a “good boy”. He told the Des Moines Register his son is scheduled to graduate high school this year.
According to their father, Abdelmagid Elzubeir dreamed of going to college in New York and becoming a doctor.
