Apple will soon introduce the M3 iPad Pro with an OLED screen. A new rumor suggests that the smaller 11.1-inch model may be in short supply at launch.
This is because panel supply was initially limited. It appears that there will be no supply issues with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
Apple soon secures second OLED iPad Pro supplier
Apple's upcoming M3 iPad Pro is expected to use 11.1-inch and 12.9-inch OLED displays. This will be a big upgrade from the LCD and mini LED panels of the current generation model.
Display analyst Ross Young said: X post, claiming that panel production for the 11.1-inch iPad Pro lags significantly behind the 12.9-inch model. Currently, Samsung Display is the exclusive screen supplier. LG Display is expected to begin producing 11.1-inch OLED panels at the end of this month, easing supply problems.
So the 11.1-inch iPad Pro may be in short supply at first, but availability will increase next week. LG is already a secondary supplier of 12.9-inch OLED screens to Apple, so availability will likely increase once the larger iPad Pro launches.
The M3 iPad Pro will not ship before April.
Previous reports suggested that Apple could launch the M3 iPad Pro in late March or early April. Ross reaffirmed this, saying that panel shipments began in February and that the new iPad won't start shipping until April.
Aside from the OLED screen, faster M3 chip, and thinner chassis, there aren't likely to be any other significant changes to Apple's 2024 iPad Pro lineup. We wish Apple would increase battery life or add additional ports to the tablet, but that seems unlikely.
Along with the new M3 iPad Pro, Apple will reportedly also refresh its iPad Air lineup. Aside from the internal spec bump, the company is also expected to add the 12.9-inch iPad Air to its lineup, the design of which was recently leaked in CAD renders. The new and improved Magic Keyboard will be launched alongside the new tablet with an aluminum case.
